For most of the clubs it was another weekend of wet rugby and we now finally see a change at the top of the Super League A log. After their very convincing 41-0 win over St Georges, Durbell have ousted Stellenbosch from the log top spot. The biggest mover this week is Union Milnerton who jump from ten to seven after beating Tygerberg 36-32 in a very closely contested match. Tygerberg now sits nine on the log and will have their work cut out for them as they come up against third place Hamiltons this weekend.
The pick of the weekend fixtures must surely be False Bay vs Durbell. False Bay have the upper hand on total season points with 167 compared to Durbell’s 159, but Durbell have had less points scored against them. The rest of the statistics are just about equal on average tries and points per game.
Kuilsrivier stay top of the log in Super League B while Helderberg jump to second after beating Primrose 24-17. The biggest climber in this league this week is Franschhoek, who now sit in position five after beating Collegians 27-7.
The pick of the week fixtures in Super League B must be Helderberg versus Paarl who respectively sit two and three on the log. If you’re looking to find derby matches you’ll certainly have your fill in this league. In Lentegeur, Collegians take on Primrose. These two clubs have a lot of shared history and still have active engagements at youth level. Another big derby will be Kraaifontein versus Hands and Hearts, these neighbours are long-time rivals and will be looking to see who walks away with bragging rights.
In Super League C, the Helderberg basin derby match between Strand and Strand United went 25-32 in the favour of Strand. This win sees Strand move to second place while Goodwood remain in top spot after their 20 all draw with Macassar. Goodwood will be looking to cement their position at the top as they face rivals Elsies River. Another derby this weekend is Langa vs Busy Bees. Langa have so far scored an average of six tries per game as opposed to Busy Bees one. We expect a tough day at the office for Busy Bees who are yet to score a win this season.
In the City League Masiphumelele remain unbeaten in first place after scoring a close 24-20 win over Caledonian Roses.
Retreat moved to number one on the log in the Southern League after their 31-10 win over Peninsula, while Noordelikes moved to third place after their 50-5 win over Atlantis.
The Northern League saw some runaway victories and largest points margins, as Raithby beat Delft 87-0, Strand Pioneers beat Windmeul United 82-0 and Blue Stars United beat Blakes 67-12. VDS-Evergreen remains in first place with Raithby now hot on their heels.
In the Paarl League, Perel United did well to keep the score line down against themselves in their match against log leaders Young Standards, losing 26-17. This was a good effort from Perel United considering the log gap between these two sides.
This weekend we expect a tough match between Young Standards and Young Gardens who sit in first and second place respectively. This could not be a more evenly matched game as both are four from four wins, an average of three tries per game and are closely matched on average points per game. In addition to these equal stats both teams are based at the Dal Josafat sport grounds and thus share further commonality.
