The WP Club Rugby fixtures saw some big derbies last week. Amongst others, Hands and Hearts took the honours 20-8 against Kraaifontein at a jam packed Eikendal.
The WP Club Rugby season is now a third of the way and some clubs are now changing their strategies to ensure they stay away from the dreaded relegation zone.
In Super League A , Villagers, who now sit eleven on the log will be happy with their 17 all draw to sixth place and unbeaten Brackenfell. Both St Georges and NTK have only one win from five games so far, and will have mixed feelings after their 32 all draw this weekend. St Georges might be a little concerned as their next three games are away from home.
At False Bay Coach Jonno van der Walt will be happy after taking full advantage of their fifth consecutive home game by beating high flying log leaders Durbell 37-34. SK Walmers have only played two matches so far, but after their 78-13 loss to Union Milnerton Coach Wilbur Kraak will want to get the ball rolling urgently. Things will not get any easier this weekend as they now take on second place Hamiltons.
In Super League B, Paarl jumped to the top of the log after their 48-6 win over Helderberg. This weekend could see a change at the top of the log as Paarl now travel to second place Kuilsriver. Both teams have now won four from five and this will certainly be a must watch game. Third place Hamlets seem to be getting back on track after their loss to Franschhoek, beating Rangers 41-38.
Goodwood’s win over Elsies River sees them stay at the top of the log in Super League C, but unbeaten Macassar is still hot on their heels. After beating Mannenberg Rangers 41 -12, Macassar still have a game in hand. This weeks derby match in Super League C is undoubtedly Blue Jets versus Busy Bees.
Coach Warren Edwards certainly seems to be doing things right at Masiphumelele as they continue to dominate in the City League. Many factors give them a firm thumbs up. Masi are unbeaten thus far and have their next three games at home. They will however be tested when they face Western Zebras and Young Ideas away later in the season.
After beating Titans 52-7 Lagunya was the biggest climber in the Southern League this past weekend as they jumped from fourth to first on the log. We could however see a change on the log here as Noordelikes will need only a draw or more against Thistles to go to Top spot. Lagunya will be unable to defend this position as they have a bye this weekend. Hereafter things will get interesting again as Lagunya will have two games in hand.
The Van Der Stel – Evergreens merger continues to bear fruit as they stay top of the log in the Northern League. This weekend they travel to Delft who is yet to get a win on the board. Raithby are close behind in second spot with the bigger points difference compared to Northerns. This essentially means that either of the top two teams log position could be determined by bonus points.
Young Standards took a 5-3 win over Young Gardens keeping them at number one on the log in the Paarl League. Albions jump back into second place after their 29-22 win over Paarl Rangers. This week third place Young Gardens come up against fifth place Lower Paarl.
